Belton (November 6, 2012) -- University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Javicz Jones has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for this week. Jones is being honored for his record-setting performance in the Cru’s 54-20 victory over East Texas Baptist University.
Jones, a senior linebacker from Katy Morton Ranch High School, posted 13 tackles and returned two interceptions for touchdowns for the Cru. He became the all-time leading tackler in American Southwest Conference history by pushing his total to 416 and also became the first UMHB or ASC player to return two interceptions for touchdowns in the same game. His 92-yard interception return in the fourth quarter is the longest interception return in school history. Jones also recorded a sack, a tackle for loss and a forced fumble in the game.
This is the second Team of the Week appearance for Jones this season. The Cru is 9-0 overall and 6-0 in ASC play on the year. The win over ETBU clinched a postseason berth and at least a share of the conference championship. UMHB will close out the 2012 regular season with a 1:00 PM kickoff against Mississippi College (2-7, 1-5 ASC) at Tiger Field.
