Parade Scheduled For National Champion Lady Bears

WACO (April 10, 2012)—Baylor and the City of Waco announced plans for a downtown parade next week to honor the Lady Bears for winning the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship.

The parade, which begins at 5:30 p.m. Monday, will include 20 cars in which players, coaches and administrators will ride down Austin Avenue from 11th Street to City Hall where a brief ceremony will be held.

“Waco area citizens are encouraged to wear their Green and Gold and line Austin Avenue to show their appreciation for the Lady Bears’ amazing accomplishment of winning the National Championship for the second time and being the only NCAA basketball team (men or women) to have a 40-0 season,” the city said Tuesday in announcing the parade, which will be carried live on the Waco City Cable Channel and streamed live on the city’s website.

Baylor captured its second national title in program history back on April 3, defeating Notre Dame 80-61. The Lady Bears became the first team in college basketball history, men or women, to finish a season 40-0.
