LORENA (April 28, 2013) -- In tennis, love is not a good thing.
But Drew Keeney has found a match made in heaven.
"I could tell right from the get go that we were meant for each other…on the courts," Keeney said.
The feeling was mutual for Miles Milliorn.
"The chemistry was awesome," Milliorn said.
Keeney and Milliorn were each successful singles players at Lorena, but this season, they found their true calling, together, playing doubles .
"We won our first tournament, which was very unlikely considering we had never played doubles before," Keeney said.
"We had maybe a week of practice before that first tournament…that first tournament was a good experience since we won it…we thought it was meant to be.
Not only did they keep winning, Keeney and Milliorn made history.
They're the first players from Lorena to ever reach the state tournament.
"We've got a successful football team, successful basketball team and baseball and track…I think it just brings us up to the level of expectations," head coach Mark Wilson said.
"It's always a great honor to be the first of anything. Hopefully this starts a tradition at Lorena," Keeney said.
And if chemistry has taught them anything, it's that nothing is impossible.
"I don't want to go down there just to be the team that went to state. I want to win it. I think that's possible," Milliorn said.
Keeney and Milliorn kick off state play at 8 a.m. Monday.
