(February 7, 2013) -- The McLennan Highlassies and the San Jacinto Coyotes split today's doubleheader in Houston.
The Highlassies defeated the Coyotes 6-3 in game one with Laura Wilson picking up the win.
San Jacinto began the scoring with one run in the bottom of the first. Raven Keeler drew a lead-off walk, moved to second as Madison Staton was hit by the pitch, advanced to third on a single by Haley Beam and scored on a pop fly by Loren Donaldson.
The Coyotes added one run in the bottom of the fourth as Chelsea Bennett doubled and scored on a double by Keeler.
MCC exploded for six runs in the top of the sixth. Courtney Mica led off with a walk, Natali Duron singled and Taylor Davis walked to load the bases. Kady Crow followed with a single to score Mica. Lena Capps then singled to score Duron and Davis. Tiffany Birdwell reached first and advanced to second on a San Jacinto throwing error, allowing Crow to score. Capps scored on a fly out by Sevanah Campos-Reyes and Birdwell stole home.
San Jacinto's Raven Keeler rounded out the scoring with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh.
The Coyotes bounced back to run-rule the Highlassies 12-4 in the nightcap.
MCC got three runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Duron drew a walk and Davis singled. Crow followed with a single to score Duron. Capps then singled to score Davis. Crow scored on a single by Campos-Reyes.
San Jacinto broke the game open with 11 runs in the bottom of the second. Donaldson walked, Taylor Burnett singled and Lauren VonBerkman reached on an error to load the bases. Jessie Rodriguez then reached first safely on an error, bringing in Donaldson to score. Bennett followed with a single to score Burnett. Keeler reached on an error, scoring VonBerkman. Rodriguez and Bennett scored on a single by Sarah Ragsdale. Keeler scored on a passed ball. Karri Smith singled to score Ragsdale. Brooke DuBois and Burnett singled to load the bases. VonBerkman followed with a grand slam.
The Highlassies scored one run in the fourth. Capps led off with a double.Tiffany Birdwell walked, stole second and advanced to third on a fielder's choice by Calvo that put Capps out at the plate. Birdwell then stole home.
The Coyotes sealed the win with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Smith walked and was replaced by pinch runner Shelby Scott. DuBois walked and Donaldson singled to load the bases. Burnett then singled to score Scott.
MCC returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Trinity Valley for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
