Mart Falls In 1A DI Final To Stamford

(December 20, 2012) -- Stamford quarterback Hagen Hutchinson scored the go-ahead touchdown with 32 seconds left and sealed the game with an interception to give the Bulldogs a 35-28 win over Mart in the 1A Division I state championship game.

Mart ends the season at 12-3 and has Stamford end its playoff run for the second straight year.

The Panthers struck first in the game, with a 67 yard touchdown pass and catch from De'Nerian Thomas to Quentin Bryant, and led 21-13 at half.

With the game tied at 28, with five minutes to in the fourth, Hutchinson and the Bulldogs drove down the field, with Hutchinson scoring on a 8 yard touchdown run.

The senior quarterback/defensive back was selected the game's offensive and defensive Most Valuable Player. He accumulated 132 yards rushing and had two rushing touchdowns. He also was 22 for 30 passing for 248 yards, with two scoring passes to James Washington.

The win gives Stamford its first state title in 53 years.
