Olympic Track Star Indicted In Girlfriend’s Death

PRETORIA, South Africa (August 19, 2013)—Track and field star Oscar Pistorius, 26, was indicted for murder Monday in the Valentine’s Day shooting death of his girlfriend.

Pistorius, a double-amputee who’s known as the “Blade Runner” because of the prostheses he wears when he competes, appeared Monday for a brief magistrate’s court hearing.

Prosecutors say witness accounts cast doubt on his claim that the fatal shooting of his girlfriend was accidental.

He has said he believed she was an intruder.

But prosecutors say a witnesses heard a woman screaming before the shots were fired.

Prosecutors will try to show that the couple argued before Reeva Steenkamp was killed.

Pistorius is scheduled to go on trial in March.

He’s been free on bond since his arrest in February.
