(March 25, 2013) -- The head coaching search for Salado is over.
The Eagles will name Sherman assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Brent Graham as its new head coach and athletic director. The move was approved by the school board on a unanimous 7-0 vote Monday night.
Graham spent the last four years at Sherman High School, a 4A school that, under his direction, made it to the football playoffs all four years.
He also served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Tulsa, a Division I school, and served as head football coach at Tom Bean High School in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
Before that, beginning in 2004, he served as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for two seasons at Mesquite Poteet High School, his alma mater.
Superintendent Michael Novotny confirmed the recommendation to 254Sports on Monday. Novotny said he received 153 applications for the job and conducted 43 interviews. After a second round of interviews with 15 candidates, he narrowed down the pool to four finalist, one of those being current Axtell head coach Mike Cadell. Novotny told 254Sports that Graham was the person he felt was best suited to fill the vacancy left by former head coach Glenn Talbott.
