BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (July 12, 2012) -- Seven members of the Texas A&M football team were named to the 2012 Southeastern Conference pre-season Coaches All-SEC Team, including three Aggies that earned first-team recognition, the league announced on Thursday.
Gaining first-team All-SEC honors in the Aggies' first season of SEC play were wide receiver Ryan Swope (Austin, Texas), offensive tackle Luke Joeckel (Arlington, Texas) and linebacker Sean Porter (Schertz, Texas). Being named to the third team were running back Christine Michael (Beaumont, Texas), offensive tackle Jake Matthews (Missouri City, Texas), defensive end Damontre Moore (Rowlett, Texas) and return specialist Dustin Harris (Livingston, Texas).
The preseason accolades for the Aggies continue to roll in from other sources, as well.
The Football Writers Association of America announced its "watch list" for the 2012 Outland Award, which is given annually to the best interior lineman in college football. Being named to the Outland list were the Aggies' junior offensive tackles, Joeckel and Matthews.
The FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club also announced the watch list for the 2012 Bronko Nagurski Trophy, which is given to the nation's best defensive player. Porter, who led the Big 12 in quarterback sacks last year, earned a spot on the Nagurski watch list.
