(January 31, 2013) -- The Texas A&M Board of Regents authorized A&M President R. Bowen Loftin to negotiate and give out contract extensions to Kevin Sumlin and his staff of assistant coaches at Thursday’s Board of Regents meeting.

In a press release, the Board announced the raises have been agreed on, but are still being reviewed, “with the contracts expected to be executed in the very near future.”

Sumlin led the Aggies to an 11-2 mark and Cotton Bowl victory. A&M finished the season ranked ranked No. 5 in the nation, the highest mark for an Aggie team since 1956 under Paul “Bear” Bryant.

Sumlin’s original contract was for $2.4 million and following A&M’s impressive first season in the SEC as well as being contacted by several NFL teams about filling their head coaching vacancies a pay raise was forthcoming.

Sumlin was the fifth lowest paid coach in the SEC in 2012.
