COLLEGE STATION (May 27, 2013) -- The Texas A&M Aggies were selected to participate in their seventh consecutive NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, extending their school-record string.
The Aggies were tabbed as the No. 2 seed in the in the Corvallis Regional where they will face No. 3 seed UC Santa Barbara in the first day’s action. On the second day, A&M will face either host Oregon State or No. 4 seed UTSA.
It marks the 29th overall appearance for the Aggies in the NCAA Tournament and the seventh time in eight years under the direction of head coach Rob Childress.
Texas A&M (32-27) has never faced UCSB.
The Aggies are 4-4 all-time against Oregon State. The Maroon and White lost to the Beavers twice at the 2009 NCAA Fort Worth Regional.
Texas A&M is 21-9 all-time against UTSA, including an 11-4 victory over the Roadrunners this season.
The winner of the Corvallis Regional will face the winner of the Manhattan Regional in a Super Regional. Teams in the Manhattan Region include Kansas State, Arkansas, Bryant and Wichita State.
Kansas State, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will represent the Big 12 Conference in the 2013 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship field. The Wildcats will serve as a regional host for the first time in school history. Action begins on Friday, May 31, and will conclude on Monday, June 3 (if necessary).
The Big 12’s three selections ties for the fifth-most by one conference in this year’s event. Overall, the Big 12 has totaled 90 NCAA appearances and is 176-131 in Regional games. The Big 12 has sent multiple teams to Super Regional action in 11 years, including each of the past three seasons. Additionally, the league has had 15 teams advance to the College World Series.
