Texas Defense Shows Good, Bad And Ugly

AUSTIN (September 4, 2012) -- The Texas Longhorns expect to have one of the best defenses in the Big 12. Their first game out showed they can make the big plays needed to win a game - and give up the kind of plays that will lose one.

The No. 17 Longhorns (1-0) gave up two long touchdown passes, but also forced two turnovers that set up touchdowns and made a key fourth-down stop late in a 37-17 win over Wyoming.

Texas' talented defensive line produced just one sack and the secondary gave up an average of 17 yards per catch.

Several Longhorns players say their tackling was rusty and should improve when Texas plays New Mexico (1-0) on Saturday night.
