PINEVILLE, La. (April 26, 2013) -- Louisiana College constructed three big innings to take the American Southwest Conference Tournament series-opener from the Cru, earning a 10-1 win Friday night in Pineville. The Cru falls to 20-20 on the season while the Wildcats improve to 23-16.
Louisiana College got on the board first with a three-run first inning to take an early lead on the Cru. UMHB responded in the top of the second with an RBI single from Will Stafford, scoring Seth Mogavero from third. The Wilcats put together two more three-run innings in the bottom of the seventh for a 9-1 lead. Louisiana College added another run in the bottom of the eighth for the 10-1 win. Five Crusaders recorded hits for the Cru, led by Chase Burrow and Chris Florack with two apiece. Stafford had the lone RBI for the Cru. Ian Ekery took the loss on the mound for the Cru.
The Cru will return to action tomorrow with a 2 p.m. game against Louisiana College. A third game will be played approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of that game if necessary. The winner of this series will advance to the championship round of the tournament, May 3-5, and face the winner of Texas Lutheran and East Texas Baptist. The ASC Tournament champion will claim the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.
