Belton (February 20, 2013) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s basketball team slipped one spot to #3 in the South Region in the NCAA Division III Regional Rankings released Wednesday.
Virginia Wesleyan moved up from #4 to #1 in the region despite having just 16 in-region wins. Hampden-Sydney dropped one spot to #2 in this week’s ranking. Christopher Newport is ranked fourth with Emory University holding down the fifth spot. UMHB’s American Southwest Conference rival Concordia Texas is ranked sixth in the region and U.T.-Dallas is seventh, giving the ASC three of the top seventh teams in the South Region rankings. Randolph rounds out the South Region rankings at #8 this week.
The NCAA Regional Rankings are used to determine seedings and selections for the NCAA Division III National Championships. This is the third publicly released regional ranking of the 2012-13 season. The final ranking is typically not released to the public. The field for the NCAA Division III National Championships will be released next Monday, February 25th.
The Cru finished the regular season at 21-4 overall and went 17-2 in ASC play. The Cru won the ASC West Division title and will be a #1 seed in the ASC Championship Tournament this weekend. UMHB opens ASC Tournament play with a 12:00 PM tip-off against LeTourneau University on Friday in Richardson.
