(March 25, 2014) The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s golf team could not move up on the final day as the Cru finished third at the John Davis Group/UTD Classic Tuesday in Garland. The UMHB men fired a 314-305-318=937 total and finished 13 strokes off the pace set by tournament champion Schreiner University (311-310-303=924). U.T.-Tyler took second place, finishing eight shots ahead of the Cru with a 313-299-317=929. Concordia Texas posted a 322-305-323=950 for fourth place and Louisiana College rounded out the top five with a 327-320-322=969. U.T.-Dallas’ green team claimed sixth place with a 316-327-331=974, Sterling College shot 344-333-346=1023 for seventh place, LeTourneau University was eighth with a 347-346-355=1048, U.T.-Dallas’ orange team recorded a 349-349-352=1050 for ninth place and University of Dallas finished tenth at 426-433-419=1278.
Robby Schimmels posted the low individual finish for the UMHB men after taking ninth place with a 79-76-78=233. Stayton Lindeman finished in a tie for tenth for the Cru after shooting 75-75-84=234. Pablo Mena Medrano (81-76-78) and Justin Judkins (79-78-78) tied for 12th place after shooting 235’s and Jarrod Brown posted 84-79-84=247 to tie for 23rd place for UMHB. U.T.-Tyler’s Buddy Hallman won the individual title after carding a 76-73-76=225.
The tournament was played on a par-72, 7,027-yard layout at Firewheel Golf Club in Garland. This was the final tournament for the UMHB men before the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament. That tournament will be played April 14th and 15th at Squaw Valley Golf Course in Glen Rose.
