Tunica, Miss. (September 16, 2013) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s golf team improved by two strokes on the final day, but the Cru could not move up in the team standings and tied for tenth place at the Rhodes College Fall Classic.
The UMHB men posted a 304-302=606 and tied with Centre College (305-301) and Texas Lutheran University (394-302) for tenth. Tournament host Rhodes College won the tournament with a 292-295=587 team total. Wittenberg’s 293-297=590 was good for second place and U.T.-Tyler shot 293-298=591 for third place. Transylvania (299-293) and Berry College (300-292) tied for fourth place with 592’s, Oglethorpe took sixth with a 295-301=596, Southwestern University claimed seventh with a 301-298=599, Huntingdon College fired a 301-301=602 for eighth place and DePauw University finished ninth with a 304-300=604 total. A 20-team field competed in the tournament. The event was played on a par-72, 7.125-yard layout at Tunica National Golf Course.
Pablo Mena Medrano was the top individual finisher for UMHB, posting a 75-72=147 to tie for 16th place. Justin Judkins shot 76-76=152 to tie for 36th place, Robby Schimmels (76-78) and Stayton Lindeman (77-77) both shot 154’s to tie for 50th place and Jarrod Brown carded an 80-77=157 to tie for 65th. Oglethorpe’s Anthony Maccaglia won the individual title after posting 66-73=139.
The Cru men will return to action with the UMHB Fall Invitational. That tournament will be played September 23rd and 24th at Cowan Creek Golf Course in Georgetown.
