UMHB Men's Soccer Beats Texas A&M Club Team

COLLEGE STATION (September 7, 2012) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team defeated the Texas A&M club team 2-1 in College Station, TX on Friday. The game does not count in official stats for the Cru because the NCAA does not recognize games against club teams as official contests.

UMHB controlled most of the first half, taking an early 1-0 lead when Chris Torres scored off an assist from Tyler Pate in the 19th minute. Texas A&M took charge in the second half, tying the game at 1-1 in the 60th minute. UMHB again gained momentum and capitalized on that when Torres scored the game-winning goal off an assist from John Williams in the 88th minute.

“It was a great win and a good prep for conference play,” head coach Brad Bankhead said.

The Cru returns to play Tuesday afternoon in a 7:30 p.m. match against Southwestern. UMHB opens conference play at Texas Lutheran on Friday, Sept. 14th at 4 p.m. and will take on Schreiner Sept. 15th before returning home to face East Texas Baptist on Sept. 20th.
