UMHB Men's Soccer Falls to Howard Payne

BELTON (October 27, 2012) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Howard Payne Saturday evening in Belton as Francisco Garza, Derek Geels and Chris Torres all played their last match at the Cru SportsPlex.

Shay Pate gave Howard Payne an early lead with a goal at the 33:14 mark. UMHB outshot the Yellow Jackets 19-4 in the match but was unable to put a shot in the net. Torres led the Cru with 5 shots in the match, while Geels, John Williams and Isaiah Minick each recorded three. Brandon Stegmeyer played the entire match in goal for the Cru, recording two saves.

The Cru will enter the American Southwest Conference tournament next weekend with a 10-5-1 overall record and 8-3-1 mark in conference play. Howard Payne ends its season at 4-10-2 overall and 2-9-1 in ASC action.
