BELTON (April 27, 2013) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s tennis team never recovered from being swept in doubles and the Cru fell to U.T.-Dallas 5-0 in the Semifinals of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Saturday in Belton. The Comets advance to the ASC Championship Match for the first time in program history.
Casey Clark and Dustin Foster won #2 doubles to get things started for the Comets. Byron Cole and Bryan Leib then took #3 doubles and Matthew Davis and Dennis Roy won at #1 doubles to make it 3-0 entering singles. Foster posted a straight set win #3 singles and Antonio Alda won #6 singles to clinch the match. Will Summers was serving match point at #1 singles for the Cru when the match was halted.
U.T.-Dallas improves to 13-4 on the season with the win and moves into Sunday’s Championship Match to take on either Mississippi College or U.T.-Tyler. That match will be played at the Yvonne Li Tennis Center on the UMHB campus. The ASC Tournament Champion also claims the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. The loss ends UMHB’s season at 7-3 and also closes out Summers’ Cru playing career.
