Belton (March 13, 2013) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s basketball team placed two players on the D3hoops.com All-South Region Team released today. Cru head coach Ken DeWeese was also named South Region Coach of the Year by D3hoops.com.
Kitrick Bell was named to the All-South Region Second Team. Bell, a junior forward from Fort Bend Marshall High School, leads UMHB and the American Southwest Conference in rebounding at 10.2 boards per game. He is also averaging 12.1 points per game and shoots 57 percent from the Field. Bell also ranks among the national leaders in double-doubles. He has 25 assists, 20 steals and 11 blocked shots on the season.
Thomas Orr was voted to the All-South Region Third Team. Orr, a senior wing from Hutto High School, leads the Cru in scoring at 14.7 points per game and he has a team-best 55 three-pointers on the year. Orr is averaging 5.1 rebounds per game and has added 57 assists, 26 steals and a team-high 14 blocked shots.
DeWeese was named South Region Coach of the Year after guiding the Cru to a 21-4 regular season record, a sixth NCAA Tournament berth in the last seven years, an ASC West Division title and the ASC Tournament Championship Game. He has UMHB in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament this year.
The UMHB men are currently 24-5 and are in the Sectional Round of the NCAA Division III National Championships for just the second time in the program’s history. The Cru will face Whitworth University in a 9:00 PM Central Time (7:00 PM Pacific Time) start this Saturday with a berth in the “Elite Eight” on the line. That game will be played at the Whitworth Fieldhouse in Spokane, Washington.
