UMHB Set to Host Louisiana College in NCAA Tourney

Belton (November 16, 2012) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team had to wait four years to finally play a home playoff game, now the Cru is making a habit of opening the postseason on its home field. Saturday, UMHB will play host to the 15th home playoff game in the program’s 15-year history when Louisiana College comes Tiger Field for an NCAA Division III National Championships First Round game. The 2nd-ranked Cru will host its American Southwest Conference rival for a 12:00 PM kickoff. UMHB brings a 10-0 overall record into Saturday’s game while the 23rd-ranked Wildcats are 8-2 on the year. Louisiana College is making its first postseason appearance and the Wildcats set a new school record with the eight wins this season. The two teams met in Pineville back in October with the Cru winning a 30-3 decision. It took a blocked field goal return for a touchdown on the final play of the first half for UMHB to get on the scoreboard in that game and the Cru is expecting another inspire effort from the Wildcats.

“We have a lot of respect for what they do as a program and they are very talented and athletic,” Cru head coach Pete Fredenburg said. “We know that we are in for a real challenge Saturday, but this is why you play and coach football, for a chance to be in a game like this. I know our players and coaches are excited and it should be a tremendous football game.”

This is the seventh time the ASC has sent two teams to the NCAA Division III National Championships. It marks the third time the two ASC representatives have met in the First Round. The two ASC teams have met in the Second Round twice. The only two times the ASC programs were split in the bracket were in 2001 and 2009. In 2001, UMHB and Hardin-Simmons were sent to separate regions and both fell in the First Round. In 2009, UMHB and Mississippi College went to separate brackets and both fell in Second Round games.

The winner of Saturday’s game advances to the Second Round to face either Adrian College or Franklin College for the right to advance to the quarterfinals. UMHB will provide a free live video stream and live statistics for Saturday’s game at the following link: http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/umhb.portal.

Tickets will be on sale Saturday at Tiger Field with the gates opening at 10:30 AM. All reserved tickets are $8. General admission tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for seniors (ages 60 and up) and students (ages 3-college age). There are no complimentary tickets or passes for NCAA postseason contests.
