UMHB Softball Splits With Texas Lutheran

Seguin (March 22, 2013) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team held on for a game one win, but the Cru could not rally late in game two in a doubleheader split with Texas Lutheran Friday afternoon in Seguin. UMHB won 2-1 before falling 4-3 to move to 10-10 overall and 5-5 in American Southwest Conference play on the season. Texas Lutheran is now 19-7 overall and 9-1 in the ASC West on the year.

Janie Neyland hit an inside the park home run on the first pitch of the third inning to give UMHB a 1-0 lead. A run-scoring error gave the Cru a 2-0 edge in the top of the fourth. TLU would cut it to 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh, but Rebekah Ragsdale struck out the final Bulldog hitter to end it. Ragsdale scattered seven hits and struck out four to move her record to 6-3 for UMHB. The Cru was held to four hits in the game.

Neyland’s RBI single in the second inning gave UMHB an early lead in game two. The Cru stretched it to 3-0 on Kourtney Bevers two-run double in the top of the fourth. TLU answered with a three-run fifth and scored what proved to be the game-winner on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth. UMHB then went down in order in the top of the seventh. Bevers, Tori Gomez and Caitlin Bollier had two hits apiece for UMHB. Halle Sabo took the loss for the Cru to fall to 0-3 on the year.

The two teams will close out the series tomorrow with a 1:00 PM doubleheader. UMHB will then return home to host Pacific Lutheran for a 12:00 PM doubleheader on Monday at Dee Dillon Field.
