Belton (April 8, 2013) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor will host a special celebration welcoming the members of the men's basketball team at Tuesday, April 9, at 2:00 p.m. in the Mayborn Campus Center Arena on the UMHB campus.
The Crusaders came up short in the final game of the tournament, losing 87-70 to Amherst. The game was held in Atlanta's Philips Arena in front of 6,250 fans. Many of those in attendance were UMHB students, faculty, and staff members. The university chartered four buses to take more than 275 students to the game. For those Cru supporters who were not able to make the trip to Atlanta, the Grand Avenue Theater in Belton dedicated four of its screens to the game.
The Crusaders were the Cinderella story of the 2012-2013 season, emerging from the regular season unranked in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll before knocking off conference rival Concordia followed by three straight nationally ranked opponents. Along the way, the Cru became the first American Southwest Conference men's basketball program to advance beyond the Elite Eight, the first men's basketball team from the state of Texas to play for a Division III National Championship and the first UMHB men's basketball team to move beyond the "Sweet 16" of the NCAA Division III National Championships.
The Cru Cheerleading team and Blackshirt Cru Spirit Band will both be taking part in the festivities. The event is free and open to the public.
