AUSTIN (September 22, 2012) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team split two matches on the final day of the American Southwest Conference Dig Pink Crossover Challenge Saturday in Austin. UMHB opened the day with a four-set loss to Hardin-Simmons University before beating Schreiner University in five sets to close out the tournament. The Cru is now 11-3 overall and 4-2 in ASC play after going 2-1 over the weekend.
UMHB opened the day with a 24-26, 25-19, 25-19, 25-21 loss to Hardin-Simmons. The Cowgirls outhit the Cru .247 to .126 in the match and HSU also posted nine service aces. Tina Miller led UMHB with 18 kills and Sapphire Reid added 11 more. Shelby Prather posted 41 assists and five Cru players reached double figures in digs, led by Kendra Feldmann with 15. Prather and Kendall Pye added 14 digs apiece.
UMHB then closed out the day with a 22-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 15-10 victory over Schreiner, battling back from a pair of deficits to get the win. The Cru would force 35 attack errors for Schreiner. Miller again led the way with 14 digs and Pye added 12 kills, 10 assists and 12 digs. Prather recorded 33 assists and Feldmann had a team-best 20 digs to lead four players in double figures.
The Cru will return to action with a pair of ASC East Division road matches next week. UMHB will open with a 3:00 PM match at Mississippi College next Friday before closing out the weekend with a 2:00 PM match at East Texas Baptist University next Saturday.
