UMHB Volleyball Sweeps At UT-Tyler Tournament

Tyler (September 7, 2012) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball posted a pair of victories on the opening day of the U.T.-Tyler Tournament Friday in Tyler. The Cru opened with a four-set win over Hendrix College before knocking off Centenary in three sets. UMHB improves to 5-1 on the season with the two wins.

The Cru beat Hendrix 25-16, 20-25, 25-18, 25-20 to open the day. Lauren Powell led UMHB with 12 kills and she had a .500 hitting percentage in the match. Tina Miller added nine kills and Cheyenne Dowdey chipped in eight kills and seven solo blocks. Morgan Baker recorded 15 digs and Kendra Feldmann chipped in 10 more. Shelby Prather led UMHB with 38 assists.

The Cru then rolled to a 25-8, 25-7, 25-9 win over Centenary College to close out the day. Miller had 12 kills and Kendall Pye hit .800 with eight kills in ten attempts. Elise butler led the way with 13 digs. Prather had 20 assists and Shelbey Perkins posted three service aces.

UMHB will close out the tournament with matches against Texas College and Millsaps College tomorrow. The Cru will then return home to open American Southwest Conference East Division play with a 7:00 PM match against LeTourneau University next Tuesday.
