AUSTIN (September 21, 2012) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team overcame a third set hiccup and the Cru rolled to a 3-1 victory over Concordia Texas Friday night in Austin. The win comes in the final match on the opening day of the American Southwest Conference Dig Pink Crossover Challenge. UMHB improves to 10-2 overall and 3-1 in ASC play with the victory. The loss drops the Tornados to 5-9 overall and 0-3 in the ASC on the season.
The Cru rolled to wins in the first two sets before dropping the third. UMHB then won five of the last seven points to break open a tight set four on the way to a 25-21, 25-17, 14-25, 25-20 win. The Cru hit .129 as a team in the match, but posted eight total team blocks and took advantage of ten Concordia service errors.
Tina Miller and Kendall Pye led UMHB with 10 kills apiece and Sapphire Reid added nine more. Shelby Prather recorded a team-best 39 assists and Lauren Powell led four players in double figures with 17 digs.
Allison Pringle led the Tornados with 11 kills. Bianca Martinez had 37 assists and three Concordia players reached double figures in digs, led by Alissa Johnson with 32.
The Cru will close out the tournament with two more matches tomorrow. UMHB will take on Hardin-Simmons University in a 10:00 AM match before facing Schreiner University in a 5:30 PM start.
