Blanco (September 10, 2013) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team stretched its lead on the final day and the Cru women rolled to an 18-stroke victory at the Lady Bulldog Fall Classic Tuesday afternoon in Blanco. The UMHB women posted a 322-324=646 team total to top second-place Southwestern University's 336-328=664. Concordia Texas took third place with a 349-353=702, Hardin-Simmons was fourth with a 353-355=708, U.T.-Dallas was fifth with a 362-369=731 and tournament host Texas Lutheran University rounded out the field with a 375-375=750 score. The two-day, 36-hole event was played on a par-72, 5,826-yard layout at Vaaler Creek Golf Course in Blanco.
UMHB's Taylor O'Rear won the individual championship after posting an 81-76=157. She edged teammate Elizabeth Davis' 78-80=158 by one stroke to win the title. Victoria Thane tied for fifth place after shooting 80-82=162, Ashley Garbade took seventh place after carding an 84-80=164, Sara Eckert's 83-86=169 was good for ninth place, Kaley Jackson finished 11th with an 85-86=171 and Allison Holly tied for 13th place after posting 89-84=173.
The tournament was the first competitive play for the Cru since UMHB women the NCAA Division III National Championship last May. The tournament was also the first tournament for the UMHB women under head coach Jackie Ralston. Ralston took over when Darla Kirby returned to full-time duties as Associate Athletic Director following the National Tournament.
