GRAND PRAIRIE (March 25, 2013) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s golf team is in third place after the opening round of the Division II heavy Bluebonnet Classic Monday in Grand Prairie. The Cru posted a 317 team total and sits ten strokes off the pace set by tournament leader and host Northwood University (307). West Texas A&M is in second place, two shots ahead of UMHB with a 315. Western Texas Community College is in fourth place at 322 and Rogers State University rounds out the top five with a 332. There is a 12-team field competing in the tournament and UMHB is the only NCAA Division III program in the event.
Elizabeth Davis fired the low individual round for the UMHB women, posting a 78 to claim a share of sixth place. Taylor O’Rear and Victoria Thane both shot 79’s and are tied for 10th place, Ashley Garbade shot 80 to tie for 14th place, Sara Eckert fired an 81 and is tied for 19th place, Kelly Gonyea holds a share of 22nd place after posting an 82, Emily Santos is tied for 33rd with an 87 and Allison Holly carded an 88 to tie for 38th place. Northwood’s Laura DeLeonardis has the individual lead after posting a one-over 73 on Monday.
The two-day, 36-hole event is being played on a par-72 layout at Tangle Ridge Golf Club in Grand Prairie. Teams will tee for tomorrow’s final round with a 10:00 AM shotgun start.
