Georgetown (September 10, 2013) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team used a late offensive surge to earn a 2-1 overtime win at Southwestern University Tuesday evening in Georgetown. The Cru advances to 3-0 on the season while the Pirates fall to 1-3.
The game remained scoreless until the 66th minute minute when Sarah Bevins gave Southwestern a 1-0 lead. The Pirates held that lead until the 76:28 mark when Kristen Hoelscher found the back of the net and sent the game to overtime. Hoelscher then assisted Kathryn Parker in the 91st minute to give the Cru a 2-1 victory on the first shot of the overtime period.
Parker led the Cru with five shots while Hoelscher and Allison Porter each added three. UMHB outshot the Pirates 15-10, putting ten shots on goal. Courtney Craig earned the win in the net for the Cru, allowing one goal and recording two saves.
UMHB will return to action Saturday in a 7 p.m. home opener against Southwestern Assemblies of God University.
