Belton (March 1, 2012) -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s golf team moved into the Top 25 in the country in the first Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches’ Top 25 Poll of the spring. The UMHB men totaled 34 points in this week’s poll and are ranked 25th in the nation. Guilford College holds down the top spot with 15 first-place votes and 441 total points. The Cru is one of four American Southwest Conference teams mentioned in the latest poll. U.T.-Tyler is ranked 4th with 373 total points. Schreiner University is receiving votes worth 28 total points this week and U.T.-Dallas totaled 24 votes in this week’s poll.
The Cru men opened the spring season by taking the top two teams spots at the UMHB Spring Invitational. The UMHB Purple team won that tournament by 10 strokes over the UMHB Gold team. The Cru also took the top four individual spots with sophomore Justin Judkins winning a sudden death playoff with teammates Bryce Myburgh and Stayton Lindeman.

The UMHB women totaled 232 points in this week’s poll to maintain their ranking from the final poll of the fall. Methodist University holds down the top spot with 18 first-place votes and 521 total points. The Cru is one of three American Southwest Conference teams mentioned in the latest poll. U.T.-Tyler is ranked 18th with 175 total points. Schreiner University is receiving votes worth nine total points this week.
The Cru women opened the spring season by placing fourth at the UMHB Spring Invitational earlier this week. The UMHB women posted a 333-317-650 team total and finished behind three scholarship programs in that tournament.
The Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches’ Poll combines the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Also on Thursday, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s golfer Justin Judkins has been named American Southwest Conference Co-Men’s Golfer of the Week for the week ending February 28th.
Judkins, a sophomore from Johnson High School in San Antonio, won the UMHB Spring Invitational on the first hole of a sudden death playoff. He was tied for the individual lead with teammates Bryce Myburgh and Stayton Lindeman after shooting 76-77=153. Judkins shares this week’s conference award with Chris Hyten of Texas Lutheran University.
