UMHB Tennis Players Claim Conference Honors

Belton (April 19, 2012) -- University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s tennis player Will Summers has been named American Southwest Conference West Division Player of the Week for the week ending April 17th. Summers, a junior from Belton High School, went 3-0 at #1 singles for the Cru in wins over Schreiner, Texas Lutheran and Southwestern University during that time. He also teamed with Josh Pownall to go 3-0 at #1 doubles in last week’s action.

The UMHB men’s tennis team is 8-5 on the spring season and has a 4-0 mark in ASC West play. The Cru will close out the regular season with home matches against Hardin-Simmons and Howard Payne this weekend.

University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s tennis player Megan Aarhus has been named American Southwest Conference West Division Player of the Week for the week ending April 17th. Aarhus, a senior from Georgetown High School, posted a pair of victories at #1 singles and also went 2-0 at #2 doubles in last week’s action. She helped keep the UMHB women in contention for a berth in the ASC Tournament with dual match wins over Schreiner University and Texas Lutheran University.

The Cru grabbed a lead in doubles and then swept through singles on the way to an 8-1 win over Southwestern University Thursday evening in Belton. The Cru women improve to 9-5 on the spring with the victory. The loss drops the Pirates to 7-9 on the spring.

UMHB will close out the regular season with home matches against Hardin-Simmons University and Howard Payne University on Friday and Saturday. The Cru can clinch a berth in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament with a win over Hardin-Simmons on Friday.
