UMHB's Jones Named ASC Defensive Player of Week

Belton (November 11, 2012) -- University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football player Javicz Jones has been named American Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Cru’s 59-0 victory over Mississippi College last Saturday. It is the fourth ASC Player of the Week honor for Jones this season.

Jones, a senior linebacker from Katy Morton Ranch High School, posted 12 total tackles, one tackle for loss, added an interception and returned a blocked field goal 77 yards for a touchdown. He led a Cru defense that held the Choctaws to 272 yards of total offense and posted its first shutout since the 2009 season. Jones now has four touchdown returns on the season and tied the school single-season record with his sixth pick of the year.

UMHB finished the regular season 10-0 overall and won a tenth ASC title with a 7-0 league record. The Cru will now advance to the NCAA Division III National Championships and will host ASC rival Louisiana College (8-2, 6-1 ASC) in a First Round game. That game will be a 12:00 PM kickoff Saturday at Tiger Field.
