UMHB's Jones Named To D3Football.com Team Of The Week

Belton (October 23, 2012) -- University of Mary Hardin-Baylor linebacker Javicz Jones has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for his performance in the Cru’s 45-32 victory over Hardin-Simmons University last Saturday.

Jones, a senior from Katy Morton Ranch High School, forced three turnovers and recorded a game-high 14 tackles against the Cowboys. He intercepted passes on back-to-back drives after UMHB took a fourth quarter lead to thwart HSU’s comeback bid and set up a pair of insurance field goals. Jones also forced and recovered a fumble on a sack, added 2.0 tackles for loss and broke up another pass. He needs just one more tackle to become the first Cru player to reach 400 career tackles and he is four stops away from tying the American Southwest Conference career record of 403 tackles held by former Hardin-Simons standout Jared Sanderson.

The Cru is currently 7-0 overall and 4-0 in ASC play and is the only team still in control of its own destiny in the race for the conference title and the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. UMHB will return to action with a 2:00 PM kickoff at Howard Payne University this Saturday in Brownwood.
