UT Women’s Track Coach Placed On Paid Leave

AUSTIN (November 12, 2012)—The University of Texas has placed women's track and field coach Beverly Kearney on paid leaving pending a review of the program, university officials announced Monday.

Officials said the university is reviewing issues pertaining to the program of which Kearney has been head coach since 1993.

Kearney is one of the nation's most successful coaches in women's track and field with seven national championships, six while coaching Texas and one at Florida.

Her teams have also won 23 league titles and she has received dozens of national sports and personal honors.

Kearney also organizes an annual Minority Mentorship Symposium in Austin, which introduces minority student athletes to minority executives to help them get career advice.

The UT statement did not say how long the review may take.
