WACO (April 22, 2013) -- University High School formally introduced Keith Willis as its head football coach Monday morning during a ceremony at the school.
Willis is a Waco native and attended University during the beginning of his high school career. He then played at Sam Houston State and spent some time in the NFL with the Houston Oilers.
Willis' first coaching job was at the intermediate school level in Waco, where he worked under Marty Herbst, who is now the Waco High head coach.
Willis coached last season at Austin LBJ, where he led the Jaguars to a 4-6 record. His team lost in the first round of the 4A playoffs. University hasn't reached the playoffs since 2009.
Before Austin LBJ, Willis guided Marlin to a 19-25 record in three years.
He replaces Matt Carroll, who left to purse coaching opportunities in San Antonio.
