(March 25, 2013) -- Shanay Washington worked hard to get back from an ACL injury last season, her fourth of her career. But on Feburary 21, 2012, the Baylor guard suffered another setback.
Washington tore her ACL again in her knee, ending her season. After the Lady Bears won the national champonship, Washington made the tough decision to end her playing career.
But Washington did end her time with the team.
Washington came back in a new role, as a student assistant, and she's provided guidance and inspiration for the defending national champions.
"She didn't give up, so why, and her situation was a lot worse than probably some of the stuff that we get upset or sad about, or disappointed about," said senior Brittney Griner. "We can look at her and say, if she can do it, then I can get through it too."
"We've never left her behind and she's always been right there and still a factor on this team."
Washington will be right there on the sideline, when the top seed Lady Bears face eighth seed Florida State Tuesday night at 8:30 pm at the Ferrell Center.
