(July 17, 2012) -- The First National Bank Central Texas Kickoff Sports Luncheon will be at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 22 at the Baylor University Ferrell Center and feature former Florida State quarterback and basketball point guard Charlie Ward.
Under legendary Coach Bobby Bowden, Ward won the Heisman Trophy and led the FSU Seminoles to their first-ever national championship. Though undrafted by the NFL, Ward became a first-round NBA draft pick of the New York Knicks in 1994. He played 11 seasons in the NBA and then served as an assistant coach with the Houston Rockets for two years. Ward was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006.
Taking his skills and experience to younger generations, Ward created and underwrote Christian basketball camps for boys and girls ages 8 to 18. In 2007, he accepted a position as assistant coach for the varsity boys’ basketball and football teams at Westbury Christian School in Houston. A year later, he was named to his current position as head football coach.
The Kickoff Luncheon will also include a preview of Baylor’s upcoming college football season from Head Football Coach Art Briles and a viewing of the KWTX News 10 High School Football Season preview.
