Former UMHB and University High Alum Scores NFL TD In Debut

CHICAGO (September 9, 2012) -- Former University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football player Jerrell Freeman made his regular season NFL debut one to remember by becoming the first UMHB and American Southwest Conference football alum to score a touchdown in a regular season NFL game. Freeman, a rookie linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts, intercepted a Jay Cutler pass and returned it three yards for a score just 3:26 into the game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Freeman also had five tackles in the game as he made his first regular season NFL start. The Colts would lose the game to the Bears 41-21. Freeman and the Colts will return to action against Minnesota next Sunday.

Freeman played for UMHB from 2004-2007 and finished his career as the Cru’s leading tackler. He was voted D3football.com National Defensive Player of the Year and also took ASC Defensive Player of the Year honors as a senior.
