Lance Armstrong Stripped Of Tour De France Titles

GENEVA (October 22, 2012)--Cycling's governing body announced Monday it has agreed to strip Lance Armstrong of his seven Tour de France titles and ban him for life.

UCI President Pat McQuaid announced Monday that the federation accepted the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency's report on Armstrong and would not appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The decision clears the way for Tour de France organizers to remove Armstrong's name from the record books, officially erasing his consecutive victories from 1999-2005.

In Paris, Tour director Christian Prudhomme said at a news conference he no longer considers Armstrong the seven-time champion of the race.

Prudhomme called UCI's decision "totally logical" and said, "Lance Armstrong is no longer the winner of the Tour de France from 1999-2005."

After hearing the USI’s decision Monday, sunglass and sports clothing maker Oakley announced it was dropping Armstrong.

Other sponsors that have dropped Armstrong include Nike, Trek Bicycles and Anheuser-Busch, 24 Hour Fitness and Honey Stinger.
