WACO (July 4, 2012) -- A spin on a 4th of July tradition has come to downtown Waco.

The goal, eat as many corn dogs as you can in five minutes.

"Well, I've been on this weight loss and I said, 'what the heck, even if I'm on a weight loss, I can still have fun and have some corn dogs,'" said contestant Kurt Krakowian.

"It's July 4th and I'm hungry. I'm just going to eat as many as I can, as much as I can. I'm pretty sure that's what everyone else is thinking right now," said contestant Garrett Curtsinger.

Michael Wilkes made a special trip to Waco from crumb to compete in the contest...he's won three corn dog eating contests at the Texas State Fair.

"When I saw y'all were having your 1st annual corny dog contest I felt it only appropriate that the champ come down and gnaw down a few dogs and see what he can do."

After the sticks settled, Wilkes reigned supreme taking home the coveted corn dog cup.

"Just glad I could be here to share it with my family and friends and be a part of the first annual Waco on the Brazos 4th of July corny dog contest," said Wilkes.
