LOS ANGELES (February 17, 2012) -- Former Baylor standout Jimmy Walker fired a 66 and was at 4-under 138 in the second round at the Northern Trust Open.
Walker is two shots off the pace from Phil Mickelson, who made the most out of his limited chances Friday to stay in the lead at .
Mickelson holed a lob wedge from 110 yards on the eighth hole for eagle and chipped in for birdie for the second straight day. That helped him to a 1-over 70, leaving him two shots clear of the early starters at balmy Riviera.
Mickelson, coming off a win last week at Pebble Beach, was at 6-under 136.
Carl Pettersson (70) and Matt Kuchar (69) find themselves tied with Walker. Kuchar was stung by a bee near the sixth green.
The wind was not nearly as severe. What kept scores from going lower were greens that were getting more bumpy.
