Baylor Captures First Conference Win

WACO (October 10, 2012) -- Hope Ogden had a career high 26 digs, as Baylor (14-6, 1-4) came from 1-0 down to defeat Texas Tech 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-18) Wednesday night at the Ferrell Center. The win snapped a five-match losing streak for the Bears.

“We needed that win," head coach Jim Barnes said. "I thought we were so focused on the game plan early on that we left our heart in the locker room. In the second set we started to play with more passion and were able to dominate the final three sets the way we should.”

Ogden was one of five Bears to record double-digit digs, as Kayce Evans (12), Kate Harris (12), Thea Munch-Soegaard and Mackenzie Mayo (11) helped guide the BU defense to a season high 78 digs. The Baylor blocking attack registered its second-straight double-digit blocking match with 13, as Zoe Adom and Adri Nora each had six.
Offensively, Torri Campbell had a season high 15 kills, while Alyssa Dibbern added 14.

Texas Tech took a 13-12 lead in the opening set and never relinquished, as the Baylor attack managed just a .116 hitting percentage to go with eight attacking errors.

The Bears bounced back in game two, swinging .297 as Dibbern and Campbell led the way with .714 and .33 attacking percentages, respectively. Tied at seven apiece, the Bears went on a 5-0 run and never allowed the Red Raider closer than two the rest of the way en route to a 25-19 win.

Baylor’s defense showed up big in set three, forcing the Red Raiders into nine hitting errors and a -.031 hitting percentage. The BU block accounted for five total points, as Nora had four of her six blocks in the third. Another 5-0 run gave the Bears a seven-point cushion, and they would later extend the lead to as many as eight before finishing the set with a 25-19 victory.

BU saved its best set for last, hitting .333 in the fourth to take the match. Dibbern had six kills, while Adom added five en route to a 25-18 win.

Baylor will have a quick turnaround, traveling to Oklahoma (14-6, 3-2) for a 7 pm match Fri., Oct. 12 in Norman.
