Waco (August 16, 2013) -- The Jewel of the Brazos is coming along on time.
On Friday, a media tour was hosted by Baylor to update the progress of the construction of Baylor Stadium. Nearly 30-percent of the the construction is complete, according to senior project manager Jim Heley.
The structural steel of the stadium is going up and the structural frame should be complete by the end of September into early October. By the end of the year, most of the outside of the stadium will be complete.
Baylor expects to open its new stadium by Fall 2014.
"It is amazing how all of this is coming together, and it wasn't long ago there was just a bunch of dirt being pushed around," said Baylor Athletic Director Ian McCaw, "and now today you get a real sense of what this stadium is going to look like. It's going to be a real fan experience."
McCaw also said Baylor stadium will be "a collegiate version of Cowboys Stadium, located on a campus setting."
The project is worth $260 million and is expected to have a capacity of 45,000.
