COLLEGE STATION (March 28, 2012) -- No. 15 Texas A&M (23-9, 3-1) scored all of its runs with two outs, defeating No. 17 Baylor (22-9, 1-3) 6-1 Wednesday night at the Aggie Softball Complex in College Station.
Three Lady Bears (Holly Holl, Kathy Shelton and Megan Turk) delivered hits on the night, while Jordan Strickland knocked in her sixth RBI of the year. Defensively, Clare Hosack threw out to runners on the night, with one pickoff and one caught stealing.
Texas A&M took a 2-0 lead in the second as Cassie Tysarczyk reached on an errant throw from second and came around to score on an RBI-double from Amber Garza. With two outs, Kelsea Orsak delivered the second double of the inning for the two-run advantage.
Orsak made it 4-0 in the fourth with another two-out double, this time scoring a pair.
Baylor answered with one in the fifth when Holly Holl led off the inning with a double to left center, her team leading seventh of the year. After advancing to third on a groundout to first, pinch runner Kaitlyn Thumann came in to score on a sac fly in foul ground in left to make it 4-1.
Tysarczyk took the lead to 6-1 with a two-out home run to left center in the bottom of the fifth.
The Lady Bears attempted a two-out rally of their own in the sixth, as Kathy Shelton and Megan Turk delivered back-to-back singles, but a Clare Hosack strikeout ended the threat.
Baylor will remain on the road when it travels to No. 12 Missouri for a three-game series with the Tigers beginning on Friday at 6:00 p.m. Saturday’s game will be broadcast nationally on Fox Sports Net beginning at 3:30 p.m.
