Baylor’s Terrance Williams Named Walter Camp All-American

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (December 6, 2012) -- Baylor senior wide receiver Terrance Williams has been named first-team All-America by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, the foundation announced Thursday during The Home Depot ESPN College Football Awards Show.

Williams’ selection marks the third time in the Big 12 era that the Bears have had a player named to the nation’s oldest college football All-America squad. Robert Griffin III was a second-team honoree a season ago, and when Daniel Sepulveda was named to the first team in 2006, he became the first Bear honored since Santana Dotson in 1991.

A Dallas, Texas, native, Williams is the third offensive skill position player in program history named a Walter Camp All-American. Receiver Lawrence Elkins was selected in 1963 and 1964, along with RG3 last season.

One of three Biletnikoff Award finalists, Williams leads the nation with 1,764 receiving yards and ranks eighth nationally with 95 receptions. He’s already broken the Baylor single-season receiving yards record, and his 12 receiving TDs and 95 receptions are both the second-most in a season in program history. He needs 236 receiving yards in the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl to become the second 2,000-yard receiver in NCAA history.

Williams has gone over 100 receiving yards in eight of 12 games this season and has had at least 70 yards in every game. He’s also broken Baylor’s career record with 4,554 all-purpose yards, and his 1,778 all-purpose yards on the season are also a school record. He broke Baylor’s single-game receptions record and set a Big 12 record for receiving yards when he racked up 314 yards on 17 receptions on Sept. 29 at West Virginia.

Williams was also named a Sporting News All-American Thursday. He was previously named Baylor’s first AFCA All-American since 2006 and he earned first-team All-Big 12 honors from the league’s coaches and the Associated Press on Wednesday.

Baylor closes out the 2012 season by facing UCLA in the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 27 at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium. The Bears will be playing in bowl game in a third straight season for the first time in program history.
