WACO (December 26, 2013) Fans and supporters gathered Thursday morning at Waco Regional Airport to send off the Big 12 Champion Baylor Bears as the team boarded a plane for the flight to Phoenix.
Team members met Thursday morning outside the athletic facility on campus and boarded buses for the ride to the airport where two chartered United Airlines 727s were waiting.
Baylor faces the University of Central Florida next Wednesday evening in the Fiesta Bowl.
Robert Pearson, who’s been shining shoes at the airport for seven years, was decked out in green and gold Thursday.
“I’m blessed to be part of this,” he said.
He predicted a big Baylor win.
“It’s going to be 48-3,” he said.
The Bears secured their first berth in a BCS bowl by defeating Texas on Dec. 7 to win the Big 12 Title, wrapping up the first 11-win season in program history and their first league title since winning the Southwest Conference Championship in 1980.
Baylor became a national-title contender this season behind a prolific offense.
Central Florida, which finished the regular season 11-1, won the American Athletic Conference Title and its first BCS bid by holding off SMU in an icy game in Texas.
