(April 12, 2012) -- The 2012 Heart of Texas Bowl Committee announces an addition for the annual bowl game.
In addition to the annual National Junior College game featuring a member of the Southwest Junior College Conference versus an at-large junior college team, the 2012 Hot Bowl will begin a new tradition in hosting the first ever NCAA Division II CHAMPS HOT BOWL.
“This is a great event for Copperas Cove and the surrounding communities. In addition to the two junior college teams and all the support programs (band, dance teams, etc.), there will two four-year colleges in the NCAA Division II ranks that will participate in the Bowl series,” stated America’s Drug Free Productions President and CCISD Director of Athletics Jack Welch. “That will be an addition of over 240 players, full college bands, dance teams, and pep squads, and lots of parents/fans. All of our motels will be full with spill over to area cities and the restaurants will be packed,” said Welch.
Welch credits former CCHS head coach and current McMurry University head coach, Hal Mumme, for assisting Welch in bringing the bowl to Copperas Cove.
“I have been to the HOT Bowl games in the past and have always been impressed with the quality organization of the entire event. I recommended that the NCAA D-II bowl come to Copperas Cove because the folks at the Champs Heart of Texas Bowl know what they are doing. Having a D-II bowl in Copperas Cove, which is in the middle of Texas, will be a great addition to college bowl games,” stated Mumme.
The CHAMPS Heart of Texas Bowl will begin on Saturday, December 1 at 12pm with the 12th annual Junior College game at Bulldawg Stadium. The NCAA Division II game will begin at 6pm. The price of one ticket is good for one or both games. Ticket prices are $10.00 for adults and $6.00 for students.
