WACO (November 10, 2012) -- The McLennan Highlanders defeated the Cedar Valley Suns 63-59 this afternoon in the final game of the Joe White Classic in Hillsboro.
Cedar Valley built a four-point lead with 11:02 to play in the first half, but MCC tied the game at 12 with 10:05 to go. The Highlanders took a three-point lead but the Suns, 10-1 run in the next three minutes gave them a 24-18 advantage. Cedar Valley extended the to 12 but MCC cut it to nine at the half, 34-25.
The Highlanders cut the lead to three midway through the second half but the Suns used a 6-0 run to extend the lead back to nine. MCC responded with an 8-0 run to cut the lead to one at 53-52 with 3:38 remaining in the game. Cedar Valley led 57-56 with 1:24 on the clock. Shawn Prudhomme's 3-pointer with 52 seconds to play gave MCC it's first lead of the second half, 59-57. The Suns tied the game less than 10 seconds later but a DeChristion McKinnyey's basket and Prudhomme's shot at the buzzer secured the win for the Highlanders.
Prudhomme led MCC with 16 points and McKinney added 12. Deondre Ray rounded put the Highlanders on double figures with 11.
