MCC Falls In Season Finale, TC Makes Postseason

(February 29, 2012) -- The McLennan Highlanders fell to the Southwestern Christian Rams 83-80 in overtime.

The game was close from start to finish. Southwestern Christian led 25-19 with 8:45 to go in the first half. MCC ended the half on a 15-3 run to take the 34-28 advantage at the break.

The Rams rallied to tie the game at 39 with 16:38 remaining in the game. Southwestern Christian led 52-46 midway through the half. The Highlanders fought back, taking the 56-55 lead with 5:24 on the clock. The two teams traded baskets the rest of the way. Jordan Clark gave MCC the two-point lead on a pair of free throws with 0:23 seconds to go. Morgan tied the game on a put back with two seconds left to force the overtime.

Southwestern Christian jumped out to an early four-point lead in the extra period but MCC tied the game at 80 on a Derico Dandridge three-pointer with 0:14 seconds left to play. The Rams stole the win on a Martain three-pointer as time expired.

Clark led the Highlanders with 21 points. Bobby Hatchett and Malcolm Hamilton added 17 and 13, respectively.

The Temple College Leopards needed a win in their season finale against Weatherford College to get into next week's Region V tournament in Lubbock.

Behind Demarcus Johnson's 25 points, TC secured the final playoff spot, beating the Coyotes 71-64 in Temple College Gym.

TC will face #1 South Plains in the opening round of the tournament next week.

On the women's side, the McLennan Highlassies opened the game on a 10-0 run and never looked back as they defeated the Southwestern Christian Lady Rams 87-54.

MCC held the 10-point lead at 28-18 with 5:45 remaining in the first half. The Highlassies ended the half on a 14-4 run to take the 20-point advantage at the break, 42-22.

The Highlassies led 53-31 with 15:20 to play in the game. MCC used a 10-2 run in the next three minutes to extend the lead to 30 and coasted the rest of the game to the victory.

Taylor Collier led the Highlassies with 26 points and Briah Blakely added 15. Jasmine Evans and Dominique Taylor scored 12 and 10 points, respectively.
