Larsen Named Big 12 Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year

IRVING (December 7, 2012) -- Baylor senior Dana Larsen has been named the 2012 Big 12 Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as selected by the league’s coaches. This is the inaugural year for the conference to award this academic honor.

In the classroom, Larsen is a biochemistry major with a 4.0 grade point average. Earlier this month, she was named the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year. She was a three-time Academic All-District first-team selection, a three-time Academic All-Big 12 first-team member and a regular on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

In her final year on the field for BU, Larsen helped Baylor to the most successful season in program history. The Bears racked up a 19-1-5 record, the Big 12 Conference Championship title and advanced to the NCAA Championship’s third round. During Baylor’s run to the league crown, Larsen tallied one goal and four assists to earn the event's Offensive Most Valuable Player award.

Larsen led the Bears offensively with 11 goals, nine assists and 31 points. A native of Mequon, Wis., she was named to the All-Big 12 second team and the NSCAA’s All-America third team.

Nominees must be a junior or senior in athletic and academic standings, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2, participation in at least 60 percent of the team’s scheduled contests, and a minimum of one year in residence at the institution in order to qualify.
