(April 24, 2012) -- The McLennan Highlanders swept the Blinn Buccaneers tonight in Brenham.
MCC took game one 9-8.
The Highlanders began the scoring with two runs in the top of the first. Dalton Vannatta singled, stole second and scored on a single by Jonathan Mejia. Mejia then moved to second on a single by Reid Coover and came around to score on a single by D.J. McCormick.
Blinn got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first. J.C. Neighbors led off with a single and Markus Carr was hit by the pitch. Tyler Boss followed with a single to score Neighbors, and Carr scored on a double-play ball by Eric Wood.
MCC added three runs in the second. Brooks Eady doubled and scored on Quinten Davis' home run. Ty Marlow drew a walk, advanced to second on a Blinn throwing error and scored on a single by Coover.
The Buccaneers added two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Wood led off with a solo home run. Hayden Vesely then doubled and scored on a single by Holden Cammack.
Blinn added four more in the bottom of the fifth. Neighbors led off with a single. Carr, Boss – Wood all walked, bringing Neighbors in to score. Carr scored on a passed ball. Eric Preuss then doubled to score Boss and Wood.
The Highlanders added two more in the sixth as Marlow doubled and scored on Mejia's home run.
MCC sealed the win with two runs in the seventh. Eady was safe at first and moved to second on a Blinn error. Davis then doubled to score Eady, and Davis scored on a sacrifice fly by Marlow.
The Highlanders defeated the Buccaneers 6-5 in the nightcap.
MCC score one run in the top of the first as Matt Hilston triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Marlow.
The Highlanders added one run in the third as Davis singled, stole second and scored on a Blinn error that put Hilston on second.
MCC increased the lead to four with two more runs in the fifth. Davis led off with a double and Hilston walked. Both runners advanced on stolen bases and scored on back-to-back Blinn errors.
The Highlanders continued to pull away with two additional runs in the sixth. Vannatta and Brett Thornell both singled, advanced on stolen bases and scored on a single by Eady.
Blinn scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh. Quinton Evans and Eric Johnson both walked, and Eric Garza was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Neighbors drew a walk, bringing Evans in to score. Carr followed with a single to score Johnson. Garza scored on a fly out by Boss. Wood then singled to score Neighbors and Carr.
MCC returns to action on May 2, hosting North Central for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
